FYP Briefing 4
Met AY yesterday to draft out our MB106 report and went to sit in for a talk on “报考研究所” at 2.30pm … The talk didn’t change my thinking; i am still not particularly interested in furthering my studies. But it was fun to hear the professors talking about their personal experience and the different requirements in different countries … =)
Had our 4th FYP group briefing at 4pm … Junxian sent us a sms the night before, “Dear FYP warriors, …”; what an apt word to describe our situation … Was still telling AY that everyone around us had been posting depressing threads on their Facebook lately … Seriously, writing a FYP is like fighting a war; the mentors and students each represent one side. In the midst of making sure you wouldn’t be “killed by your mentor”, you are supposed to ”attack them with constant surprises” to make sure you stay on the top … I wasn’t hoping that much; just trying to make sure that i wouldn’t be “black-listed” by my mentor … =(
Think i am still surviving somewhere in this “war”, hopefully …; at least yesterday wasn’t that bad …
The biggest problem was to add more content to my definition of “性爱小说” with regard to the term i choose to use, without complicating the word structure. But she said my direction in writing this was good; i gave an unbiased opinion without adding too much criticism to the other side. Put aside the 2 wrong characters, need for a more elaborate explanation for one of my “reasons-to-do-this”, and “shouldn’t number my reference materials”; yup that’s all … Once again, i passed the language part; at least the report i got back was quite “clean”, especially chapter 2 had 0%-scribbling …
Dear Jia Xin,
Sorry for this late reply as I was on medical leave. We are not able to borrow the 2 titles via interlibrary loan from NUS Library as they are classified as”banned” items in their collection. You would have to get a letter of recommendation from your project supervisor to bring to NUS Library to ask for permission to view the books. May I know what is the title of your project? Alternatively, you can send the signed letter as an attachment and email XXX, NUS Chinese Library at XXX to ask for permission. Do let me know if you have further queries. Thank you.
Told my mentor about the inter-library loans too; she said it was fine. Basically, the version i had been trying to borrow is “un-readable”; no 标点符号, so i should probably stick to my current version.
I am happy … =)
She wanted us to continue writing the next chapter and stop “hanging” on chapter 1; will go back to do more editing after we finish writing the 1st draft … Time to draw in the “nets” we cast and collate everything to give her a confirmed outline next meeting.
Next meeting on 12 Nov; means we have less than 2 weeks to cough out my chapter 2 since we need to submit beforehand … =(
效仿池小姐的“自恋”行径,

I think your mentor loves you. That should ensure your survival. LOL.
I better not irritate my mentor any further. At least, not at this juncture. I dun want to die a terrible death. In any case, I’ve been psycho-ing myself with much success… I love my mentor. XDDDDDD

Your “writing a FYP is like fighting a war; the mentors and students each represent one side. In the midst of making sure you wouldn’t be “killed by your mentor”, you are supposed to ”attack them with constant surprises” to make sure you stay on the top …” is so extremely apt as it depicts our exact situation now. good one. I’m gonna quote you. XD
